Born in Miskowitz, Austria, Antonietta Brandeis moved to Venice at a young age to study at the Academy. Taken by the character of the city, Brandeis became a painter of the sites of Venice, as well as Rome and Florence. She painted numerous views of famous Italian landmarks in minute detail and sparkling color. Wealthy Europeans on the Grand Tour to Italy sought after Brandeis\'s work, and she developed a reputation as one of the best view painters of the Italian sites visited by affluent travelers.
